[h1 size=120%]Band / Ensemble ProgrammeThe Knocklyon School of Music currently has two fully instrumented Concert Bands at Intermediate and Junior level of approximately 50-60 members each. The Concert Bands rehearse on Wednesday evenings for two hours and they play a wide variety of music.
The Senior Concert Band is our flagship group and they perform music ranging from specially commissioned festival and competition pieces, to film music and popular tunes. Ages of members range from 14 to 23 years of age and they are currently conducted by rising music star Andre Cavanagh.
Our Junior Band is comprised of younger musicians aged 10 to 16 years of age and a programme of music is rehearsed that sets out to prepare members for eventual membership of the Senior Band. They are currently conducted by Ms. Michelle O'Reilly and members are advanced to the Senior Band when places become available, and following an audition, where two or more suitable candidates are available.
Our 20-piece All Star Jazz Band of twenty members plays big band favourites from Glenn Miller to Count Basie with a smattering of popular music from the sixties and seventies. Members are drawn exclusively from the Senior Band, as the standard required to perform the music is high.
We also have a 'Junior Jazzers' Jazz Band formed of members of the Junior Band as an opportunity for younger members to try out the 'Big Band' format.
In the six year period from 2004 to 2009 our Bands never finished lower than 3rd Place in the 11 National and International Competitions they entered, winning 5 of the events outright!
In addition, occasional mixed ensembles are formed for special events as the need arises, members being drawn from interested students.
