Instrument Programme

The Knocklyon School of Music currently offers tuition on the following instruments:-

  • Flute
  • Clarinet
  • Saxophone (Alto and tenor)
  • Trumpet
  • Trombone
  • French Horn
  • Euphonium
  • Tuba
  • Percussion (Kit and Orchestral)
  • Piano
  • Guitar

Students usually range in age from 9 to 21 years of age and have joined following preliminary study on the recorder, however adults of all abilities including beginners can now join under our Adult Education remit. All students take part in the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (LONDON) exams with an external examiner, which we host each year in late March/early April. Many students, by arrangement with their instrument tutor, play at competitions including the Feis Ceoil, the New Park Feis and local events. Our students have also performed at the Associated Board's annual High Scorers Concert in the National Concert Hall.

In addition, students must attend a theory of music class from Grade 1 to Grade 5 level, also with the Associated Board, as part of their participation in the Instrument Programme.

Instrument Lessons last 30 minutes and take place on either Monday, Tuesday or Wednsesday evenings from 5.30 to 9.30 in St. Colmcille's Community School on the Scholarstown Road.

Remember, as part of the Adult Education Programme run in conjunction with St. Colmcille's Community School we offer most of the above to 'mature' students on request.

Over 1200 exams have now been passed by members of the Knocklyon School of Music!
